This year, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6 February 1952. To tie in with the 70 years of celebrations, David Rose, will take us through 70 years of Woking's History.
David is a local historian and writer who regularly gives illustrated talks on topics based around the Woking and Guildford areas. The talk will bring people together to celebrate our heritage and mark an occasion of collective significance that will cultivate a sense of community.
For many years he worked for the Surrey Advertiser Group of newspapers, and now writes a weekly column, Peeps into the Past, in the re-established Woking News & Mail.
He also writes for The Guildford Dragon NEWS, an online newspaper he and a friend set up in 2012.
David has written and co-written 16 local history books, the first being in 1998.
He is a collector of old postcards and photographs, bottles, pots and related items, old advertising and packaging – in fact anything that fuels his interest in local history and has a tale to tell.
