Woking raises rainbow flag for Pride in Surrey
12 July 2019
To celebrate just under a month until the inaugural Pride in Surrey, Cllr Colin Kemp was joined by representatives from Pride in Surrey before a rainbow flag was raised above the Civic Offices (12 July 2019).
The Pride in Surrey event and parade takes place on Saturday 10 August and the rainbow flag will fly proudly above the Civic Offices for a month to mark the event.
Pride in Surrey will start with a Pride Parade through Woking Town Centre at 11am on Saturday 10 August. To celebrate Woking’s involvement, Woking Park will be renamed Pride Park for the day, where visitors can find a variety of stalls selling arts and crafts alongside Pride merchandise, a food and drink area, community zone and a Youth Pride zone.
The event will showcase Surrey’s local talent alongside mainstream talent from ‘yonderyear’ and TV shows like Britain’s Got Talent and the X Factor. The Pride in Surrey event is free to attend but visitors will need to pre-register for tickets.
Cllr Colin Kemp, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Cultural Services, said:
“We are delighted that Woking is hosting the inaugural Pride in Surrey event and parade, celebrating equality and diversity throughout the town and across Surrey. Woking is a culturally diverse and inclusive borough and we are extremely proud to play host to the inaugural Pride in Surrey celebration, bringing people from across Surrey together to celebrate and show support to the LGBTQ+ community.”
